The æFun Day,’ which is funded through the Irish Sports Council’s Women in Sport initiative, will see over 130 first and second year students from secondary schools across Wicklow take to the pitch in Arklow. The three-hour course, which aims at increasing the number of young girls playing the sport, will begin at 10am.

Experienced and qualified coaches will help the girls develop their skills as well as learn some new ones. The idea of the day is to create a renewed awareness on the sport of camogie with an ultimate goal of establishing new clubs in the county.

Leinster Camogie Development Coordinator, Jenny Duffy, hopes for a fun and enjoyable day: “”We’re all hoping that Thursday will be a huge success. Basically what we want out of Thursday is increased numbers of girls taking up the sport, but that’s really only half the story. The æFun Day’ was established to give girls an opportunity of some fun and sport away from the classrooms while learning more about the sport,”” Duffy said.
