Meath Camogie Senior Championship

 

Killyon 5-10  V Blackhall Gaels 0-4

Blackhall Gaels go down badly in second phases of the Senior Camogie championship, after having a brilliant start defeating Killyon, Kilmessan & Dunboyne in the first round they were hoping to keep their winning ways.

Without a number of players, Blackhall found the going tough against a determined Killyon side, who needed these points to keep in contention for the championship round up.
Blackhall got the better start to this game with Jane Dolan putting over a point from play in the first minute, Killyons top scorer Stephanie Hevey registries from a free in the 4th minute. Jane Dolan looked dangerous from the start, grabbing 2 more points for Blackhall, Katie Mullen scored a fine point for Killyon from centre field.  It was in the 12th & 14th minute that the game changed as Killyon got  two goals the first coming from Mary O’Halloran and the second from Stephanie Hevey, and a further  5points (Stephanie Hevey  3 points & Christine Raleigh 2 points).
The second half Blackhall Gaels had a number of chances to draw back some scores but as a change of their Goalie Emily Mangan to out field and

d by Jane Dolan because of injury, Killyon never looked back, totaling up 3-3 in the second period.  Killyons Elizabeth Raleigh , Serena Tracey, Stephanie Hevey & Mary O’Halloran Impressed for Killyon while Blackhalls Emma Fahy Whelan, Kate Murphy ,Jane Burke & Kristina Troy were best for the Gaels.

Kilmessan 3-13 V Trim 1-5

Kilmessan resumed from the months break with a victory over Trim in the 2nd stage of the senior championship. Trim had the aid of a strong breeze in the first half and used it to their advantage scoring 5 points from both play & frees coming from Aisling Fagan 1point, Christine Fagan 3points,  and Brid Guy 1 point.
  Kilmessan kept in contention from the reliable free taking of Aileen Donnelly.  The home side edged ahead with an opportunist goal from Mary-Ellen Sheridan but that was quickly cancelled by Aisling Fagans goal down the other end coming from Trim after a poor clearance by the Kilmessan defence, leaving the visitors leading by 1-05 to 1-02 at half time.

Kilmessan upped the tempo in the 2nd half and with the aid of the breeze blitzed the Trim defence scoring an impressive 2-11 and keeping the Trim forwards scoreless for the entire half.  Kilmessan’s Sarah Ross, Aileen Donnelly and Anne Marie Dennehy impressed for the home side. Trims Suzanne Hayes, Sharon Campbell, Katie Hackett and Yvonne Maguire were best for Trim.

The past week saw the re-start of the Second round of the Senior Championships in Meath.  Blackhall Gaels travelled to Killyon and Trim were hosted by Kilmessan.
