All Ireland Minor  Championship

Meath 1-3 V Waterford 3-10

 

Waterford had a comprehensive win over Meath in the Minor championship,  Meath managed by John Davis was without a number of players and with only the bear 15 for the game,  Meath put up a great fight against a good Waterford side.

Waterford’s No. 14 Patricia Jackman proved to strong for Meath with a total of 8 points for her afternoons work,  she was closely followed by No. 11 Deirdre Fahey who seemed to be every where. 
Meath held Waterford well in the opening quarter with the backs Caoimhe O’Leary, Sheila Courtney and goalie Jane Walsh doing their job.   Waterford had a goal and a point up in the first 5 minutes while Meaths Kristina Troy put over from a 45m free.  Catriona McGlone Waterford got the second goal of the game in the 15th minute.  Katie Ni Choileain kept Meath in touch with a goal for Meath in the 18th minute.  Meath had a number of wides in the first half seven in total. Emily Mangan put over a point from play leaving 2 points between the sides.   Waterford pushed on with 2 more points from play and Meaths Orla Doyle finished the scoring of the first half with a well taken point from play putting a goal between the sides.

The second half Meath failed to get a score but this does not show the sheer determination of the side with some great defence play keeping Waterford at bay, it was in the tenth minute Shona Curran Waterford got the only goal of the second half ,  and with Patricia Jackman on song scoring 6 pints in this half leaving Meaths battle all up hill.

Navan O’Mahonys won well against Donaghmore/Ashbourne.  Emer Finn, Lorna Donegan, Emma Kinsella & Paula Cassells put in impressive performance to gain another two points to put in top place in the intermediate championship.
