Munster Coaching Skills Workshop – Waterford
Saturday 18th May saw the very first Munster Coaching Skills Workshop held at Tallow GAA Club, Co Waterford as part of Munster Camogie’s commitment to education of both coaches and players across the province.
The first session was aimed at young goalkeepers aged 13+, where 10 players and 20 coaches were put through their paces under the watchful eye of Munster GAA Master Tutor Pat Moore.
30 coaches and 55 girls from the Waterford U14 Development Programme then took part in the skills sessions aimed at coaches working with players aged 8-16yrs. They also played a series of small sided games, so that our first whistle referees could be mentored as part of their ongoing development.
Eoin Breathnach (Waterford GDM) held sessions focusing on increasing ball touches in a session, games-based approach to small sided games and developing skills under pressure.
Waterford senior hurler and Camogie Development Assistant Calum Lyons was then joined by county teammate Billy Nolan to deliver a session on injury prevention and basic S&C, focusing on the GAA 15 warm up and examples of miniband and powerband exercises that players can use to increase flexibility, activation and strength.
A massive thank you to Tallow GAA Club for hosting, Waterford Camogie for organising the players and facilities, as well as all the tutors, coaches, players and referees that attended.
