Munster Post Primary Schools Senior A Camogie Final

 St Mary’s ( Charleville ) 2.07  Coachford CC 0.03

St Mary’s Charleville emerged deserving winners of the Munster Senior A post primary schools competition when they overcame the spirited challenge of Coachford CC. Despite blustery conditions both teams set out their defensive stalls early in the game keeping scoring opportunities at a premium. Coachford enjoyed the lion’s share of possession in the first half but were unable to turn it into scores. Charleville defended well particularly Rebecca Finn & Erin Reidy who curbed the scoring threat of Coachford captain, Niamh Dilworth. Charleville were not getting any change out of Coachford who defended well particularly Michelle Healy & Rosie O’Mahony who covered back well from her midfield berth. Coachford keeper Marie Gleeson kept her side in the game when on the 29th minute she reacted well to a through ball to centre forward Darina O’Callaghan saving an almost certain goal. Half time saw both sides retire tied at 2 points each courtesy of frees by Charleville’s Eimear Healy and Coachford’s Joanne Casey.

Charleville upped the gears considerably at the start of the second half and put the Coachford defence under severe pressure. Quick direct ball from midfield to the half forward line saw Charleville grab an early initiative. Firstly Rebecca Finn pointed a 31st min free and then disaster struck for Coachford when a mix up in the full back line saw Kerrie Brosnan goal for Charleville on the 35th minute. Points from Darina O’Callaghan (39th) and an Eimear Healy free (42nd) extended the Charleville lead and when Mariah Reidy found herself at the receiving end of a long ball into the Coachford square from Eimear Healy on the 44th minute she made no mistake flicking the ball to the Coachford net. Further points by Kerry Brosnan and Rosemarie Rea put the game beyond Coachford whose only score in the second half came from a 50th minute point by Joanne Casey

Charleville will now make the long trip north next month when they play either Ballycastle or Magherafelt in the All Ireland semi final
