Last evenings launch was held at the teams final training session at the UCC Farm Curraheen where the Cork girls led by team captain Catriona Foley and manager Denise Cronin, herself a former All Ireland winning captain, sported the Bord Gßis Networks logo for the first time on their training and playing gear.

 The sponsorship was announced at a pre-match dinner hosted by Bord Gßis Networks at the Kingsley Hotel with players, team management county board officials, media and a number of Bord Gßis staff involved in the game all in attandance. Amongst the attendance was the company’s C.E.O. John Mullins, a native of Bishopstown where he played with the local club.  John is now an active member of the under age section of the hugely successful Kilmacud Crokes GAA Club in Dublin. Also in attendance was the company’s commercial manager All Star hurling legend and current coach to the St Finbarrs senior hurling side Ger Cunningham.

Bord Gßis Networks is the business unit within Bord Gßis that owns, builds, operates and maintains the 12,375km national natural gas network and speaking at the launch John Barry, Managing Director of Bord Gßis Networks, said;

“”We are delighted to support the Cork Senior Camogie Team as they embark on the 2008 Championship campaign. Bord Gßis Networks has always supported the communities in which it operates, particularly in Cork where the company’s headquarters is based, and we are looking forward to building on this partnership also.
The profile of Cork Camogie and the game in general is continuously gaining momentum following an outstanding record of wins and years of dedicated voluntary effort. In partnership with Bord Gßis Networks, we hope to be able to fuel the passion for camogie further and drive the profile of the team, and the game, to the forefront of Irish sporting life. Cork Camogie and Bord Gßis are both preparing to take on stiff competition in their respective fields but with this level of energy and passion fuelling each team, I believe we will both succeed.””

Cork County Board Chairperson Marion Mc Carthy in welcoming the sponsorship said,

 “”Cork Camogie Board welcome our new sponsors Bord Gßis Networks, it is a huge boost and honour to our senior team that such a prestigious company such as Bord Gßis Networks are willing to help us as we face the challenges which lie ahead in our championship campaign, we will do everything in our power to ensure success comes to both.””

With a new sponsor on board and their a new and vibrant management team under the guidance of former great Denise Cronin now well settled into the job Cork are looking ahead with enthusiasm to the championship campaign which gets under way on Sunday next when they take on Dublin at the Naomh Mearnog grounds in the first game.
