Association launches Player Pathway coaching guide
Training, playing and retaining is the message from the Camogie Association’s new coaching manual Player Pathway launched at the Association’s Annual Congress in Newbridge, March 27th.
Devised in conjunction with Coaching Ireland Player Pathway: The Phases of a Camogie Player’s Development is a comprehensive guide to coaching players throughout their respective playing careers and crucially, retaining them within the association, once they cease to participate in competitive action.
“”The Camogie Association has adopted a logical approach to player development, so that every child and adult can reach their potential and enjoy Camogie throughout their lifetime. The Player Pathway describes the opportunities to play Camogie from beginner to elite level. It is designed to give every person entering the game the chance to reach their personal potential within the sport,”” said Mary O’Connor, Director of Coaching.
Player Pathway is designed into six specific stages; Get a Grip, Clash of the Ash, Get Hooked, Solo to Success, Strike for Glory and Shifting the Goalpost.
The stages focus on players aged six up to 17 years and onwards while the concluding category of Shifting the Goalpost; the retainment phase of the model. Each category of Player Pathway has age appropriate skills and competitions.
Speaking about Player Pathway Uachtarßn Cumann Cam¾gaÝochta na nGael Joan O’Flynn: “”We are delighted to publish and promote our first Long Term Player Development Model; Player Pathway. The underpinning philosophy of the Player Development Model is to support players to reach their full potential through coaching, training and developing their athletic and personal capacities as they grow through sport””.
“”It then also suggests ways for players to make the transition into other non-playing but equally important roles at club level. Maximising participation and lifelong involvement in Camogie are fundamental aspects of our sport.””
