Clare topped their group courtesy of score difference after a three-way tie for top spot with Galway and Kilkenny. Dublin finished as runners-up in their group, suffering only one defeat to Cork who topped the table, and come into this match on a run of three straight wins. Meath secured impressive wins against Down and Westmeath as they finished second in their group after a single defeat to table-topping Antrim. The Royal County last won this title in 2015.
