This is a meeting of the dominant sides in the land for the past few years and the latest instalment in their recent hard-fought duels. A repeat of the last two League Finals, the Cats were faultless in the group stages with a 100% record. Cork impressed too but a draw against Galway in their Final group match was the only blemish on their record and meant that they had to settle for the runners-up spot on score difference alone.

The meeting of these two sides guarantees a new face in the League Final from the past two seasons. Galway are in flying form and their high scoring performances saw them edge out All-Ireland champions Cork to top spot by virtue of score difference having impressively held the Rebels to a draw as they won the rest of their group matches. Limerick are in their fifth successive League Semi-Final but have yet to take the last step to the Final itself. A one-point defeat to Kilkenny was the only negative of their group stages as they won all of their other matches, but they will be buoyed by having ran the Cats so close.
