A round up of the action from the provincial championships
Munster
Clare 3-15 v Waterford 0-25
Waterford needed extra-time to see off Clare in Zimmer Biomet Páirc Uí Chíosóg. The Centra Camogie League Division 1B champions were well matched to the 1A finalists, but it was the Déise who prevailed after extra-time, 0-25 to 3-15. The Banner will look ahead to the Glen Dimplex All-Ireland Championship, buoyed by their springtime progress. Meanwhile, Waterford will now face Kerry in the last four on the May Bank Holiday weekend.
Tipperary 1-18 v Cork 2-09
Tipperary and Cork played out a thrilling contest at FBD Semple Stadium in front of a bumper crowd last Sunday, as part of a double-header with the counties’ hurlers. It was the Premier County who prevailed, 1-18 to 2-9. Buoyed by home advantage, James Heffernan’s side were propelled to victory by a 1-4 contribution from Eimear McGrath. Saoirse McCarthy kept the Lee-siders in touch from placed balls, and St Finbarr’s duo Orlaith Cahalane and Keeva McCarthy both found the net. But Ger Manley’s outfit could not reel in their hosts, who finished strong down the stretch. Tipp will now face Limerick this Sunday in the semi-final, at SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh, as part of a double-header with the Cork-Limerick tie in the Munster Hurling Championship.
Leinster
Offaly 2-09 v Dublin 3-15
In Leinster, Dublin had too much for Offaly in Glenisk O’Connor Park, 3-15 to 2-9, in a curtain-raiser to the Leinster Hurling Championship tie between the counties. 0-10 from Aisling Maher and two goals from Grace O’Shea helped the Dubs put their league final defeat in the rear-view mirror, as the Faithful County were led by 2-5 from Mairead Teehan. Bill McCormack’s team will face Carlow in Saturday’s semi-final
Westmeath 6-14 v Kildare 0-12
In the Leinster Intermediate Championship, Westmeath put Kildare to the sword to set up a date with neighbours Meath in the semi-final in their quest for Leinster glory. In a matchup between two teams from different divisions, Westmeath looked like a team playing at a higher level, finding six goals to secure their victory. While Kildare will be disappointed, it won’t be all negative as they now prepare for the Premier Junior All-Ireland Championship
