A round up of the action from the provincial championships
Munster
Clare 3-15 v Waterford 0-25
Waterford, off the back of their maiden appearance in the Division 1A league final, faced off against a familiar foe in Division 1B Champions Clare in the Quarter-Final of the Munster Championship. With both teams having played in league finals only the previous weekend, both teams came into the game with high expectations to progress to the semi-final stage, with extra time being needed to separate the teams before Waterford eventually came away victors by the minimum to set up a date with Kerry in the semi-final.
Tipperary 1-18 v Cork 2-09
Played as part of a double-header with the Munster Hurling Championship, Tipperary and cork met in front of a feverish crowd in Semple Stadium to set up a semi-final matchup with Limerick. Having only trailed once throughout the game and leading by as much as seven points at one stage, Tipperary had last year’s All-Ireland finalists on the backfoot for the majority of the contest to come away with a statement win.
Leinster
Offaly 2-09 v Dublin 3-15
After missing out on promotion to Division 1A due to losing the Division 1B final to Clare, Dublin came out and showed their class against a very spirited Offaly side to come away with a nine point victory. Offaly kept Dublin close for the first half, but Dublin’s quality showed through to secure their place in the Leinster semi-final where they will take on Carlow.
Westmeath 6-14 v Kildare 0-12
In the Leinster Intermediate Championship, Westmeath put Kildare to the sword to set up a date with neighbours Meath in the semi-final in their quest for Leinster glory. In a matchup between two teams from different divisions, Westmeath looked like a team playing at a higher level, finding six goals to secure their victory. While Kildare will be disappointed, it won’t be all negative as they now prepare for the Premier Junior All-Ireland Championship
