St Mochuas Camogie Club, Derrynoose win Armagh Intermediate Championship

Derrynoose 3-6 Cullyhanna 3-4

A determined St Mochuas Camogie team staged a brilliant comeback against Cullyhanna in the Intermediate Championship final.

Cullyhanna started strong with the wind advantage in the first half – an early goal by Bernie Murray put the noose on the back foot.  They slotted over a few points and another two goals. Derrynoose were only starting to fight back near the end of the first half.  Half time score read Cullyhanna 3-4 Derrynoose 0-2.

A lot of supporters at this time thought the game was over but Derrynoose got stuck in and got three more points on the scoreboard – Mary Black then took a 45m which to the delight of the Derrynoose supporters dropped in over the Cullyhanna goalkeeper’s head.  Derrynoose hit the net again when Geraldine Quinn popped in a rebound. There was now only two points in it.

Cullyhanna had still to break the Derrynoose defence in the second half.  Siodna Woods was the hero when she doubled on a ball to rattle the net in the closing minutes of the game for Derrynoose to run out two-point winners.

Emma Farrell to the delight of the Derrynoose team and supporters was presented with the intermediate cup by the County Chairperson Yvonne Morgan.  Well done to our young primary stars who played at half time.  Thanks to Crossmaglen for the fantastic facilities and to the referee, lines people and umpires.  Thanks to the team management of Gerry Murphy and Maggie McKee and thanks also to all the supporters who came to the match.
