St. Marys Newport 1-3 Our Lady’s Templemore 2-13

St. Marys, Newport played Our Lady’s of Templemore on Saturday (January 26th) in a wet and windy Newport GAA grounds. Templemore came out the winners in a well fought battle. Through tough conditions, Our Lady’s stalwart Niamh Treacy hammered home some excellent points from long range and difficult angles, which were to prove heart-breaking for St. Marys.

The first half was quite even scoring and play flowed from one end of the pitch with Templemore leading 1-5 to 1-3 at half-time. However St. Mary's had the benefit of a very strong wind in the first half which their opponents used to full advantage in the second period. The atmosphere in the stand was electric as both teams battled for every ball as the game hung in the balance.

In the second half Templemore showed themselves as a much stronger team. With the wind at their backs they repeatedly popped over points and bagged another crucial goal. Niamh Treacy was unstoppable with her strength and skill. St. Mary's tried everything to match the play but Our Lady’s came out victorious on a convincing score- line of 1-3 to 2-13.
