In the first half Waterford played against a strong wind. Down got the better exchanges for the first 10/15 minutes. That pressure yielded 3 points and an unfortunate goal off a deflection. But for their inaccuracy from placed balls, Down could have been further ahead. Gradually, while coping well with the situation, determination resulted in Waterford’s two points before the break. Half time score being Down 1 – 3 Waterford 0 – 2.
The second half saw Waterford got off to a flying start, putting 1 – 2 on the board. Down levelled with a point once they got a grip on matters. Waterford then put their noses in front with another point. Then Down hit back with 1 – 2 to rock the Waterford girls, with the clock counting down, but they were not giving in. A close in free resulted in a delightful goal, but that was how it ended to leave Down win on the minimum margin. Final score was Down 2 – 6 Waterford 2 – 5.
