Ulster dominate Irish Camogie/Shinty panel

 

Ulster dominates the Irish Camogie/Shinty Panel with ten camogie players from the province representing Ireland in this Saturday’s Camogie Shinty International at Ratoath.

 

Monaghan, this year’s Gala All Ireland Junior B Champions, are rewarded with R¾isÝn McKenna and Isabel Kieran listed in the side while beaten finalists, Cavan have BrÝd Boylan, R¾isÝn O’ Keeffe and Rosie Crowe selected.

 

Shauna Jordan and Aisling Corr, members of the victorious Tyrone team who captured the Division Four National League title earlier this year are represented while Armagh have 2010 Soaring Star recipient and captain Bernie Murray along with team mates Laura Gribben and Colette McSorley amongst the ranks.

 

Speaking about this year’s Irish Camogie/Shinty Panel President of the Camogie Association Joan O’Flynn:

 

“”Congratulations to all those selected in this year’s Irish Camogie/Shinty Panel. It is a tremendous honour to represent your country. Each of the players chosen on this year’s panel are fantastic camogie ambassadors for their respective counties and have been rewarded for their excellent displays throughout the year.

 

We wish the Irish Camogie Shinty panel the very best on Saturday and we extend a warm welcome to the Scottish selection and look forward to an excellent game.””

 

Kildare, this year’s Gala All Ireland Junior A champions have 2010 Soaring Star recipient Regina Gorman and team mates Niamh Breen and Susie O’Carroll all selected while Tom O’Mahony who managed the side to this year’s All Ireland is a selector.

 

Clodagh Byrne (Carlow), -ine Charlton (Mayo), Claire Coffey (Meath) Jemma Egan, Pamela Greville (Westmeath) Bronagh McLernon and Bid Grennan (London) complete the panel while Louth’s Mary Connor and Paul Ward (Monaghan) are the remaining selectors.

ò The Irish Camogie/Shinty Internationals began in 2004 (the Centenary Year of the Camogie Association).

 
ò Ireland won the Camogie/Shinty title in 2004/2005 while Scotland recorded a hat-trick of titles in æ06, æ07 and æ08 before Ireland reclaimed the crown, away from home in 2009.


ò The Irish Camogie/Shinty International is played on a home and away basis. It took place in Scotland last year.
