Wexford pulled off a dramatic victory over a valiant Tipperary to claim the Cooper All-Ireland U14 Division 1 championship blitz honours 2-3 to 1-5 at Ballyboden.
Tipp flew out of the traps with a goal from Keeley Lenihan and they added two points by the end of the fifth minute. Wexford came back strongly with a brace of goals in two minutes from the alert Jessica Harding to lead at the interval 2-2 to 1-2.
Undeterred, Tipperary came back strongly once more with two pointed frees from Grace O’Brien and they restored parity right at the end of normal time.
Deep in injury time though, Wexford won a 45 and it was converted to give them the title. Mary Moran presented the Mary Moran Cup to the victorious captain.
It was very hard luck on Tipperary after a game of high standards that was symptomatic of the quality that ran right through the entire competition.
Derry overcame Waterford by 1-4 to 1-2 in a tightly-contested Division 2 final, Armagh overcame Cork C by 0-5 to 0-0 in the Division 3 decider and Carlow were too strong for Kerry in the Division 4 final, 2-2 to 0-0.
